  • Position Direct Support - Hard of Hearing/Deaf Programs
    Program Residential
    Location Merrimack Valley: Amesbury
    North Shore:
    Schedule Full or Part Time (8 hours to 40 hours per week)

    Provide daily living support for intellectually and developmentally disabled adults for personal hygiene care, community activities, transportation, household chores, cooking, shopping and banking.

    Education/Experience Requirements High school diploma or GED Valid driver’s license Prior experience/training in American Sign Language (ASL) or interest and commitment to learning preferred, but not required: Completion of human service certificate program preferred Six months to one year of work experience as a Direct Support staff, PCA, HHA or CNA is preferred, but not required

    • Relate successfully, provide care and further the skills development of the individual’s supported
    • Engage positively with individuals, their families/guardians, other staff and providers
    • Good listening/observation skills, able to display patience and derives sense of satisfaction helping others
    • Communicate in a polite, courteous and professional manner at all times
    • Read, write, speak and comprehend work assignment in English
    • Basic math skills
    • Dependable, team oriented and committed to providing highest level of quality care to the individuals supported
    Physical Demands • Must have the physical ability to stand frequently during the day, engage in repeated stooping or bending at the waist
    • Ability to go up and down stairs several times during the shift
    • Must be able to safely support, pivot, physically move or assist a person weighing up to 100+ lbs., during daily living activities, with or without assistance
    • Must be able to physically ensure the safety of all individuals in the program by participating in established behavioral interventions, as required
    • Ability to drive 4-6 passenger van for transportation of individuals to day programs, community activities and other engagements, as required
