Dreamweaver: Why Donations Really Matter

Steve Anthony is a dreamer. “You have dreams, I have dreams. Everybody has dreams.”

At the helm of Turning Point’s behavioral support team of five, Steve’s goal is to encourage all of the individuals served to dream. This matters because, as the Pulitzer Prize winning poet and journalist Carl Sandburg believed, “Nothing happens unless first we dream.”

In Steve’s case, plenty is happening and has happened.

A Detour with Destiny

Last October marked 30 years of service for Steve, who began his work with Turning Point, Inc. as direct support staff, which eventually evolved into his current role as Director of Forensic and Behavioral Support.

A veteran of the Navy, he once wanted to be a pro athlete, but life had other plans. “I stumbled into this field and never looked back. Doing this work was a dream I didn’t realize I had.”

Steve’s gratitude for the opportunity to work with the team at Turning Point Inc., is evident. He reflects upon his tenure as very rewarding, while acknowledging, “There is still a lot of work to do.”

Ambition in Action

While Steve’s first concern is for the individuals he works with, he is also committed to reinforcing a sense of community, which means giving back through volunteering in the community.

With public safety as top priority, Steve has successfully launched three bridge programs in order to build positive behavior supports and open doors that might otherwise remain closed, including certain personal and professional milestones like getting a driver’s license or embarking on apprenticeships for trades.

Ultimately, the goal of these efforts is to help people believe in themselves so that they might realize dreams of their own, which could be to learn new skills, travel, go on a vacation, or experience arguably commonplace moments that most of us take for granted, like dining at a restaurant.

Financing the Future

Naturally, all of these initiatives require financial support. With Turning Point committed to providing everyone they serve with a gift during the holiday season, fundraising and donations are critical year-round.

People’s donations, no matter how small, can make somebody’s dream come true.”

We hope you will consider making a donation in support of Turning Point’s efforts … and in defense of dreams.
